"Yokohama Japan Feb. 4" (1871) circular datestamp on blue folded cover to E. Ogerau in Osaka, no indication of date, but carried on the PMSS
Golden Age, departing Yokohama February 4, 1871, arriving Shanghai February 12, and dropping off the mail at Hiogo-Osaka on the route, Very Fine, this is the earliest recorded use of the Bank Note Issue in Japan, it is used on this cover to pay the 3c interconsular rate, which was reduced from 10c to 3c in mid-1870, illustrated in Frajola-Perlman-Scamp book (p. 151), ex Ishikawa
